Quiet Day 2025 focuses on stillness and meditation

‘Be still and know that I am God’ – the overarching theme for the ecumenical Quiet Day, organised by Bognor Regis Methodist Church in June 2025. Reflections from the day are published on this post for you to join in or continue the meditations.

The event, as usual, was open to all. It is wonderful every year to be joined by the other churches and members of Bognor Churches Together too. Thanks to organiser Anita for all her hard work this and in previous years. Thank you too to the Parish Church of St Thomas à Becket, in Pagham, for the prayerful and supportive space to meet.

A number of themes were highlighted during the Quiet Day. These included thinking around the idea of praise, trusting in the Lord, prayer and meditation.

Do not be anxious about tomorrow the peace of the Lord will guard your minds
Trust in the lord always, he will be your guide
Meditate on the word of God always
Praise the Lord oh my soul
God will always be exalted

The day started off with opening worship led by Revd Tongayi Matamba. This provided the introduction to a guided reflection on the Bible verses. Attendees were able to reflect on the reading individually or in small groups.

During the second part of the event, attendees went into the churchyard to have personal time of prayer. They were encouraged to take a note on whatever caught their attention in the churchyard and use this to aid their reflection.

On return to the church after this period of quiet reflection, there was a devotion on the theme ‘Be still and know that I am God’, led by Tongayi.

A break for lunch enabled attendees to take part in fellowship together or to continue their meditation in the grounds. This was followed by an opportunity for a prayer walk in the churchyard, focusing on the different churches, peace in the world, and individual’s and church families.

Tongayi said: “The penultimate session provided an opportunity to allow music speak to us and that was a spirit lifting part also.”

The quiet day finished with group group work, and attendees shared insights and experiences. This was followed by closing worship led by Revd Tongayi Matamba.
